I Hate That PhotoBox Removes Similar Photos
Our cat recently passed away and I wanted a book printed which contained nearly all of our photos.
At 11pm I used their app to select all the photos I wanted - about 230 of them. I reviewed the pre-populated book that it made and made a couple of amendments. In the list of uploaded photos they were all ticked so I went ahead and hit order.
They sent me a digital copy and I had another look through and it struck me - there can't be 230 photos in here. So I counted. There was about 103. How did this happen if all photos were ticked in the uploaded list?
I started the process to make another book and selected all my photos again. I thought I must have made a mistake so I'll make a smaller book with everything, but this time I sat and watched the upload process. 'Uploading photo 230 of 230.. Removing Similar..'
Erm. Excuse me? Removing Similar? Sure enough, in the uploaded list of photos a good number were missing. So this is what happened. I naively assumed that everything I uploaded was in the upload list, because why wouldn't it be? The very act of selecting the photos you want is the process of curation. I wouldn't mind if I was explicitly offered this or of it was made abundantly clear but there isn't even an obvious option to turn it off. I can't make the photo book that I want - the tool won't let me.
Of course there's no cancel option, even though surely it hasn't started printing within half an hour. Their help pages direct me to speak to a human about this but they're not available until 10am the next day, by which time it is feasible that printing could have started.
On what planet would you need duplicates removed from a list of photos that you manually selected?
