I Hate the Crappy Keyboard Illumination Light on the HP Elitebook 8470w
I use an old HP Elitebook 8470w for blogging. I've installed Linux Mint for shits and giggles. The machine has been barely used, leaving it in immaculate condition, so I'd like to get some use out of it rather than trash it or sell it for something silly like £50. It brings me some pleasure still being able to use an old computer for a modern task, saving something from the scrapyard.
It does not have a backlit keyboard. Instead it has a little light next to the webcam. Press the button next to it and it springs open and activates, the idea being to cast light onto the keyboard from above. It's stupid.
It barely illuminates anything, perhaps lighting the top third of the keyboard only whilst also shining into your eyes. It may as well not be there. As this laptop is now old it's also a bit temperamental, and you can see it flickering even when closed.
It is a silly thing and I'm glad the industry has moved past these now, not that they were ever common!
